GUEST BLOGGER: Leah Braemel

I would like to welcome Leah Braemel to my blog today. She is the guest blogger this week! Her post is as follows:

***
First of all, I really want to thank Rose Marie for inviting me to blog here today. This week has been a whirlwind for me. You see, last Tuesday, my first novella, Private Property, was released by Samhain Publishing. I didn’t sleep more than two hours for a week beforehand. I didn’t think I was nervous. I sure didn’t feel it, but once it released, I started sleeping again. I needed it. Because having your first book release is nerve wracking and exciting and exhilarating, and well, you can insert your own adjectives here.

Since I first decided to ‘get serious’ about my writing two years ago, I’ve discovered that the writing community, especially the romance writing community is an amazing group. They’ve cheered me on when I pitched my first manuscript to an editor. They commiserated with me when I received my first rejection. They’ve been a tremendous support structure.

This past month hasn’t been any different. People like Rose Marie who have never met me offered to host me on their blogs. Other people sent me congratulatory emails upon my book’s release – some I’ve met at conferences, and some are just people who I’ve exchanged emails with over a post on this loop or that, but never met face to face.

When I expressed shock that my book reached the top spot on the Samhain bookstore Bestsellers’ list, everyone else sent me emails saying “So why are you shocked?” But I was taken by surprise. Totally and completely. But the authors at Samhain, and those I know over at the Toronto Romance Writers, and strangers who have just seen my name on a loop, have been so gracious, so supportive, I couldn’t have gotten through this week without them. So thank you all.
